Research Program Data

Monitoring of Owls and Nightjars (MOON) in Illinois

MOON is a volunteer-based program launched in 2008 to monitor nocturnal species across Illinois. By surveying owls and nightjars each year, participants help track population trends and guide conservation of these often-overlooked birds.

Spring Bird Count (SBC)

Since 1972, the statewide Spring Bird Count has brought together volunteers each May to record bird species in all 102 Illinois counties. The long-term dataset provides valuable insights into changes in bird populations over time.
